Hi again; Just thinking about some first memories of my own. In 1953 I bought an old Harley army bike for $80. cash on the barrel head. The serial number started out WD42, that meant War Dept. 1942. It was a two cyl 45cu inch side valve with a three speed hand shift on the left side of the gas and oil tank. There were two filler caps, one for gas, the other for oil. Foot operated clutch.
I got that thing in the beginning of the winter and learned how to ride it in a horse pasture. After I found out what everything was supposed to do, I took it on the road and rode it all winter, slipping and sliding all over the place. That bike really hooked me, the next summer I bought a big 1952 74 cub inch FLH, it also was a hand shift, but it had hydraglide front forks and lots more power. What memories! I could go on and on, but I won't.
